A shuttered enclosed mall is transformed into an open-air town center
7777 Edinger Ave
Huntington Beach, CA
Town center
700,000 square feet (including a 4,000 seat stadium-seated cinema)
Prior to being redeveloped as Bella Terra, the Huntington Shopping Center, an enclosed mall built in 1966, suffered from chronic vacancy and disrepair. Following acquisition, the shopping center was “de-malled” through extensive renovation, redesign, and re-branding. Redeveloping the enclosed mall into an open-air lifestyle center required extensive engineering and construction expertise to accommodate new buildings and mitigate soil foundation issues. Bella Terra’s Tuscan-inspired architecture and mix of destination retail and entertainment draws customers from throughout the region. Major tenants include The Cheesecake Factory, REI, and Whole Foods.
