West Hollywood Gateway was a public-private partnership with the City of West Hollywood. The project’s design elements—a central plaza, architecturally elaborated exteriors and façades, generous setbacks to accommodate pedestrians and outdoor dining, and public artwork including a 50-foot-tall projection screen—create an urban village atmosphere that transformed a historic but previously blighted stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard into the area’s premier retail and entertainment center. The principals used their construction and development expertise to achieve substantial urban retail density while satisfying market parking ratios. Awarded “Best New Commercial Project” by the California Redevelopment Association for enhancing the quality of life in the neighborhood as well as spurring investment to a previously blighted area, West Hollywood Gateway is recognized as a model urban infill retail development.
